Full-day tour of Taman Ayun Temple, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple & Jatiluwih Rice Terrace, with lunch
Your tour will start with a visit to Taman Ayun Temple, a landmark in the village of Mengwi. This temple complex boasts magnificent traditional architectural features throughout its courtyards and enclosures as well as expansive garden landscapes comprised of lotus and fish ponds. The Taman Ayun Temple was to serve as a main site of worship among the Mengwi people who need not travel too far to the main large temples. It also served as a unifying symbol among the Mengwi royalty and the people.
Next, you will journey to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, a famous picturesque landmark and a significant temple complex located on the western side of the Beratan Lake in Bedugul, central Bali. The whole Bedugul area is actually a favorite weekend and holiday retreat for locals and island visitors alike from the southern and urban areas. Ulun Danu Beratan, literally the source temple of Lake Beratan, is easily the islands most iconic sanctuary, sharing the scenic qualities with the seaside temples of Uluwatu and Tanah Lot. The smooth reflective surface of the lake surrounding most of the temples base creates a unique floating impression, while the mountain range of the Bedugul region encircling the lake provides the temple with a scenic backdrop. After your visit, you will then proceed to the nearby Candi Kuning Market, which offers fruits, vegetables and many other local products.
Last, but certainly not least, you'll experience Jatiluwih. Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is a famous tourist destination in western Bali, featuring breathtaking views of rice terraces unfolding from the foot of mountains until they meet the coast. It has been well appointed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites since the site has been able to maintain the local culture heritage in form of water irrigation system managed traditionally called by Subak. It is one of the most-visited places in Bali with the beautiful view - according to its name from Jati and luwih, where Jati mean really and Luwih meaning special, good, or beautiful.
Along the way, you will enjoy lunch at Gong Jatiluwih or a similar restaurant.
Day 6. Ubud
Make sure you eat a good breakfast today - you'll need the energy! This morning, lace up your sneakers and become one with nature. Enjoy an adventurous (but fairly easy) hike through rice paddies and coconut plantations! Pass by rivers and walk through local villages as you listen to your guide tell stories about ancient Balinese culture.
After a well-deserved lunch, enjoy a leisurely afternoon. You might want to check out the Ubud Art Market for some souvenirs!
Hidden Bali Trekking Excursion, with lunch
Get ready for amazing adventure and spectacular scenery! You will be picked up by your driver and tour guide for a journey to a small village near Mengwi for the start of your 3 hour trekking. On this easy trekking, you will walk over small hidden paths through rice paddies, past rivers, and in coconut plantations. Your guide will explain to you everything about the ancient Balinese Subak system that is used to distribute water evenly for all farmers to water their sawahs (rice fields). This area in Tabanan is also called the granary of Bali because of its outstretched paddy fields that provide a lot of the rice consumed on the island.
There will be plenty of opportunities to take great pictures of the stunning scenery. The guide will arrange a pause where you will be served a refreshing coconut to drink. The trekking ends with a traditional Balinese lunch at either a local restaurant or in a Balinese gazebo, if available.
Day 7. Ubud
Rise and shine! After breakfast, consider a visit to one of Ubud's best-known attractions: Sacred Monkey Forest. At the end of Monkey Forest Road you will find a lush jungle sanctuary home to a colony of cheeky little macaque monkeys. Enjoy the surroundings, but watch out for your belongings!
If a monkey sanctuary isn't your cup of tea, visit one of Ubud’s many spas to unwind a la "Eat, Pray, Love."
Day 8. Ubud
Enjoy an energizing breakfast, then set out for spectacular scenery! Today, head to Tegalalang Rice Terrace, one of Bali's most iconic sights. Think: soaring palm trees, lush tropical greenery, and endless levels of postcard-worthy rice fields.Â
If you feel like staying indoors, check out some of Ubud's galleries and art museums! Visit the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) for a contemporary art experience, or head to Blanco Renaissance Museum, set in the jungle mansion of the late maestro, Don Antonio Blanco.
Day 9. Ubud
Make the most of your last day in blissful Bali. After breakfast, immerse yourself in peace and tranquility on a spiritual tour of the island. Take part in sacred rituals and learn all about the traditions of Balinese life. Enjoy visits to Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah), rural villages, and more.
Tonight, treat yourself to one last Balinese dinner. Enjoy a tropical cocktail and say "cheers" to a successful journey!Â
On the Blessing Trail Experience
Discover the spiritual side of the island as you take part in some of the sacred rituals that are an important part of daily Balinese life. The first visit of the morning is to the 11th-century Elephant Cave, also known as Goa Gajah. Built as a spiritual place for meditation you may even chance upon some of Bali’s Hindus bathing in the sacred springs.
After visiting the relic-filled courtyard, cave and pools, continue to the traditional Balinese village of Mas. Your host will take you on a tour to visit the compound of an important family and meet the local priest, or Brahman.
Feel free to ask questions as you chat for a while over tea, coffee, and Balinese cake. Then it is time for a private session with a local astrologer to experience a unique fortune telling using ancient methods. This is followed by a traditional Balinese blessing and purification ceremony conducted by the priest in the family temple.
Day 10. Depart Bali
Squeeze all your souvenirs into your luggage and wave goodbye to Ubud. Enjoy a convenient transfer to the airport, where you will board your flight home. Until next time, Bali!
